Dr. Robert Regal, Ph.D.

My interest in becoming a clinical psychologist began with my undergraduate studies at a university which, at the time, was one of only three university centers researching and teaching the emerging field of behavior therapy. I was hooked on the evidence-based approach to clinical treatment. As Behavior therapy has evolved into Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and now Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I continued to grow, always adhering to research-based/evidence-based therapeutic approaches. But the practice of Clinical Psychology involves much more that professional training. Clinical practice is a very human-to-human process. Professional training is critical, but life affords us all with unplanned experiences that deepen our capacity to understand.

My 40 plus years in clinical practice is clearly window into understanding that I am a man who has lived and seen much. I’ve been married to my second wife for over 35 years. My first wife tragically passed away 2-years after my second child was born. I have three adult children, four (and hopefully more) grandchildren, and the grounded understanding that life doesn’t often go as planned. The capacity to accept, adapt and grow is what we all have the capacity to do. It isn’t always easy. Often, it’s painful and hard. But one step after the next, daylight appears. I love what I do because it affords me the opportunity to help people find that daylight.
